Bill joined the Haviland Products team in 2009. He brings with him 20 years of laboratory experience, including analytical analyses, quality assurance and formulation. Bill’s laboratory experience begins with the Monsanto Chemical Company, where he worked summers while attending Central Michigan University. After graduating from CMU, he honed his Chemist skills while working for Fibertec Environmental Laboratories as the Metals Chemist. He then spent 15 years working for the Sherwin-Williams company, starting as a Chemist, then being promoted to Senior Chemist, and finally Laboratory Supervisor. While employed at Sherwin-Williams, Bill learned the contract manufacturing business. He routinely worked closely with customers, managing the transfer of technologies that accompanies contract manufacturing. Bill also worked on maximizing the efficiency of the production processes. He developed and managed a waste reuse procedure that resulted in a one-time cost savings of $105,000, and a continuing cost savings of $60,000 per year. Bill was then employed by Surefil LLC, a Personal Care contract manufacturing facility. As the Formulation Chemist, he custom formulated a line of shampoo’s and conditioner’s that was launched in CVS stores across the country. While employed with Surefil, a customer contacted him with a problem, and an opportunity. This customer had a Room Spray product being sold at Walmart. Their current contract manufacturer developed the formulation, but the product was changing colors, going from water-white to a dark amber. Bill was asked to try to correct the problem. Presented with this challenge, he tackled it head on. After trying over 50 different formulations, he solved the problem, resulting in a 7.2 million dollar contract with this customer. His other formulation experience includes hair gel, lotions, various cleaners, hand sanitizer, energy drink dietary supplements and mouthwash. He takes pride in his work, and strives to build customer relationships built on trust, integrity, and technical competence. Bill’s current responsibilities with Haviland include product formulation and quality assurance.
